I am fueled by the intersection of Space, Design, and People
Every part of my journey has been marked by my fascination with space and how people fit within it; first in in stage management and lighting design and then in a long term career in space design strategy and programming. My days are filled with floor plans, people's perception of space, their needs, and the design that could support this. I love it, but it it easy to get caught up in the data, the numbers, and the confines of a building. - to lose the balance of art and concrete design.
First inspired by personal connections with photographers, I see album design as another evolution of my work in space programming. When I design albums it is all the best parts of space planning let loose. I focus on light, color, and the way layouts and frames play with emotions and perceptions of space - providing a true experience for the viewer. I can take moments and make them fluid, support their message, and convey their beauty.
Any design should fall to the background, unnoticed: simply there to support the content (or the occupants), convey emotion, tell a story, and let the design be told through what happens within. This is as true for the pages of an album as it is for the rooms of a building.
